Vela Constellation

Woke up at 4.30 am to witness the Eta Aquarid meteor shower and got lucky to see a few streaks. I witnessed a completely different sky this morning than what I have seen every night...couple of totally new constellations and planets I was able to capture. I will cover them in the coming days.

We will see the constellation called VELA today.

VELA:

Vela is a constellation in the southern sky. Its name is Latin for the sails of a ship, and it was originally part of a larger constellation, the ship Argo Navis.
One legend has it that the mythical ship was created for Jason, who sailed with the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece. The vessel was later refitted as an Ark to suit other beliefs, but in the 1760s it was broken up by the French cleric and astronomer Nicolas de Lacaille into the four sections we recognise today, Carina, the keel, Puppis the stern, Vela the sails and Pyxis, the mariner's compass.
Vela is the 32nd constellation in size and belongs to the Heavenly Waters family of constellations, along with Carina, Columba, Delphinus, Equuleus, Eridanus, Piscis Austrinus, Puppis and Pyxis.
